  1. Kindle conversion in .mobi format

Amazon Kindle is a software and hardware platform developed by Amazon, Inc. Amazon has been a leader in online book sales since its inception in 1994. They have championed the mass marketing of e-books with the introduction of Kindle. In 2008 Kindle sold more than 500,000 eReaders. During a press release in 2009, Amazon announced that 35% of books are sold as e-books (amongst those that have an e-book version available). Needless to say, as a publisher, it would be beneficial to convert your books into Kindle format. Kindle currently supports the open PRC format as well as the .Mobi format. Any book sold on Amazon.com gets converted into its proprietary .AZW format. Converting into the .Mobi format also makes your titles available to be read in other popular devices such as iRex Technologies and Hanlin eBook.

eBookHands follows a lean conversion process for Kindle format conversion.

Step 1. You upload your specimen files onto our ftp for an estimate.
Step 2. eBookHands team determines the complexity of each file based on the requirements for your end output. Estimate is provided considering the number of footnotes, expected outcomes of the index page, images within the title, layout of the chapter and table of contents.
Step 3. After acceptance of estimate and execution of work order, all the titles are uploaded on the ftp. eBookHands accepts source files in layered PDF, Indesign, Quark or word formats.
Step 4. The titles then go into the workflow where they are first handled by the conversion team. PDF titles are converted into editable HTML formats using various tools. The first quality check is done after PDF to HTML conversion.
Step 5. The formatted HTML file is then converted into Kindle format. The second step of quality check is undertaken at this step.
Step 6. Kindle Converted file is given a final check on the Kindle device.

  2. Conversion in ePub format – Sony Conversion, Apple iPAD Conversion

Sony has been the closest competitor for Kindle in e-Reader devices. Initially, Sony, like Amazon, had its own proprietary format called BBeB (Broadband eBook) also known as LRF for its file extension. In the year 2009, Sony dropped the BBeB format to embrace the open ePub format promoted by the IDPF. ePub is the fastest growing format having been recently embraced by the gizmo giant Apple iPad.

While .Mobi and ePub formats maybe most in the news due to their portability into digital e-book devices, it is interesting to note that majority of currently available eBooks are in the PDF format. The ePDF format can currently be read on most e-Readers. If you are wondering why would you want to convert your existing PDF file into an ePDF format. The answer is that converting an ePDF format ensures a smooth reading experience with proper bookmarks, click-able footnotes, even cut margins and the assurance that your converted ePDF file can be read on most devices and ePDF reading applications. eBookHands offers ePDF conversion as an add on conversion with .Mobi and ePub formats.
